Noah & Treena
I’m Noah. My contemporary artistic practice revolves around humanity as the subject; exploring environmental issues, what it means to be human as well as humanities more macabre aspects. I was drawn to this project with Lincolnshire Recovery Partnership as this valuable opportunity allowed me to explore my interests within art therapy. I have always been drawn to how the process of art making/creating can provide beneficial insight into a participant's emotions, helping both the participant and facilitator understand these complex mental reactions.
I also have my own experience with art therapy, having sessions of both psychotherapy as well as cognitive behavioural therapy from childhood through to adulthood. I have found with participating in this project that allows me to help someone the way I was helped, I have felt a very overwhelming fulfilment. this module has been both very rewarding and a cherished opportunity. As an artist, I have found this project has allowed me to have a new perspective on art as a process, as I now notice when I am using my own artwork as a therapeutically activity. I often use experimentation to express how I am feeling/not feeling and have thoroughly enjoyed being able to help a service user explore themselves through the process of artmaking.
Hi, I’m Treena, I am on a journey of self-discovery, finding out what I want to do and not want to do. A key part of my journey in discovering myself was my baptism which allowed me to almost start again and explore myself with a fresh start. I wanted to attend these sessions as I wanted to try something new and surprise myself with what I can create and achieve. The sessions were tricky at first, I found it very hard to let go. ‘If I don’t try, I won’t fail’ so I wanted to start trying which is a first for me. Whereas as the sessions went on, I found myself being genuinely interested in artmaking, the sessions helping me to focus. I very much enjoy how carefree the sessions feel, never feeling pressured to make something perfect.
I have enjoyed using the paint pens the most, feeling drawn to the neon and bright colours.
What I have gained from these sessions is open-mindedness and willingness to try and give things a go that I wouldn’t have before, I might not think it’s any good, but my work is okay, and it doesn’t have to be perfect. I want to continue to do artwork after these sessions, I have been looking at art supplies, as time seems to fly when creating art. These sessions have helped me feel more rounded as a person, helping me on my recovery journey.
